What's sad is the old axiom..."Is the enemy of my enemy my friend, or is the enemy of my enemy my enemy?"  The US armed the mujahideen to fight the Soviets, and then they turned on the US.  While I will never say the US and Russia were best friends, attitude had changed post Soviet fall, until the current regimes...
